General Transcription
Palatal Approximant
Will generally be transcribed as a j with a vowel afterwards, which is indicated with an umlaut. For example, “yours” might be transcribed as “jörs.”
Place Names
Aliffrüme
Noun. /ælliːfˈfru.m/
Lit. “source of all life,” a large habitable planet of the Reinbrüne system, 6th in the orbit from its star.
Reinbrüne
Noun. /ˈrejnbry.ne/
Lit. “the great flame,” the main solar body about which Aliffrüme orbits.
Phantasms
Shade
Noun.
A malicious phantasm.
Dragon
Noun.
An ideal phantasm. Except in scientific literature, any ideal phantasm is often referred to simply as such, rather than by a more specific construction (i.e. "ideal automaton") as origin often becomes less relevant in discussion of such beings.
Eidolon
Noun.
A greater phantasm.
Wisp
Noun.
A lesser phantasm.
Somagenic
Adj.
Lit. "born from the body," used to refer to phantasms which were born as biological lifeforms, as opposed to fireborn. A more formal synonym for "bodyborn."
Phlogenic
Adj.
Lit. "born from soulfire," often used to differentiate fireborn from bodyborn. Synonymous with the former, and considered more formal.
Souls
Lucent
Adj.
Engrammatic Matter
Noun.
Ichor, in a scientific context.
Engrammatic Mass
Noun.
An observed property of soulfire, the conscious plane, ichor, and other phlogistic materials. Informally referred to as "heft."
Dominion
Noun.
The region of space where a given soul or other phlogistic formation has full or partial influence.
Symbolic Density
Noun.
How many symbols (that is, atoms of thought) one is able to fit within a certain standard volume of their soul. Directly correlated with one's capacity for phlogistic computing, more specifically their ability to simulate greater numbers of logic gates and other computational components, and with a shorter distance between them leading to faster response times. Scales directly with the soul's mass.
Phlogistic Computing
Soulware
Noun.
Engrams intended for embedding as flamescript within the soul plane, typically for the purposes of phlogistic computation.
Ichorware
Noun.
- An engram detailing the production of an ichorous artifact.
- The ichorous artifact itself, as above.
Reckoner
Noun.
A soulkeeper who practices phlogistic computing within their soul plane.
Symbol
Noun.
An indivisible atom of thought, a foundational concept. Within phlogistic computing, typically represents some type of simple logic gate, or a fundamental value such as a number, morpheme, character, etc.
General Phlogistics
Intuitive Phenomena
Noun.
Events or occurrences related to soulfire and the conscious plane, which have no explanation in a purely physical model. The term originates from extending the definition of "intuition" as the cognitive sense of gaining information without a material cause, as opposed to the ease of understanding such phenomena.
Phlogistics
Noun.
The study of intuitive phenomena and their effects on material reality.
Soulflow
Noun.
The average amount of soulfire one can produce at peak output, typically measured in units of lead-gallons per minute (Pbgal / minute), a unit of mass per time equal to about 0.72 kg/s. A good rate for a new, but practiced firekeeper is roughly 18 kg/s (25 Pbgal/min), with prodigal rates scraping 104 kg/s (144 Pbgal/min).
Gimpowder
Noun.
Powderized gimyndine, typically low-grade; often used for constructing completely autonomous phlogistic devices.
Coupling Limit
Noun.
A quantity directly related to a material's mass, which describes what volume of standard-mass soulfire can be coupled to it before gimyndization sets in.
Highflame Instrument
Noun.
Instruments belonging to the highflame class of firekeeping, i.e. that having to do with professional-grade gimyndine or soulfire. Such instruments are typically involved with the outfitting of firekeepers, but can also be found in industrial production or wealthy private-sector commissions.
Ichorous
Adj.
Related to or composed of ichor.
Ichorcraft
Noun.
The design of ichorous items, referred to as ichorware, including prefabricated plane projections and much of high-level artifice.
Pneumaphilic
Adj.
Having a high capacity for and/or ease of infusion.
Notion
Noun.
A concept carried by particular spark emission patterns or conscious waves, often indicating the cognitive state of their producer. Typically spoken of through metaphors, often onto color or emotion.
I.e.
- "though he appeared calm, he shone with ferocity"
- "the engram carried a crimson notion"
- "her soulfire was always tinged with hope"
Hearth
Noun.
Among firekeepers, a gathering place.
Conscious Waves
Noun.
Waves in the curvature of the conscious plane, which propagate at the speed of causality. Generated by engrammatic mass moving in a quadrupole moment, or equivalent strong intention; this results in soulfire generation being the "loudest" possible action.
Titles
High Planelord
Noun.
A planelord capable of projecting an open plane.
Planelord
Noun.
- A firekeeper capable of maintaining plane projection.
- The firekeeper with dominion over a given plane projection. In this sense, synonymous with "dominion."
Highkeeper
Noun.
A firekeeper capable of producing ichor. Distinguished in writing as "Hkpr."
Firekeeper
Noun.
One who practices firekeeping in general. Often shortened to "keeper," or "Kpr." as a title in writing.
Flamescribe
Noun.
- Specifically, a firekeeper who specializes in the creation and transcription of engrams. When used as a title, often shortened simply to "Scribe" or "Scr." in writing.
- Occasionally, one who studies potential applications of firekeeping; a phlogistician.
Flamebearer
Noun.
A firekeeper specializing in the implementation of engrams; typically combat-oriented, but may also be industrial or otherwise professional. When used as a title, shortened to "Br." for "bearer."
Phlogistician
Noun.
- Generally, any researcher of phlogistics.
- Specifically, a researcher of intuitive phenomena confined to the Conscious Plane and their causes, interactions, and structure, otherwise referred to as noelogy. Notably distinct from firekeepers.
Noelogist
Noun.
A researcher of noelogy, the study of "pure" intuitive phenomena confined to the conscious plane.
