Kindlegem
A kindlegem is any structure made in such a way as to assist in storing and/or lighting flamescript, and are the most common method of engram storage for those unable to produce ichor. Kindlegems can vary wildly in shape, size, quality, and material; all depending on cost and purpose.
Types
Smokebox
Smokeboxes are kindlegems constructed with heavy metals, granting them a long lifespan and high durability at the cost of a proportionally smaller script area by virtue of less potential for folding. Because of their durability and low cost, they are also given to flamebearers-in-training as practice devices. In fact, their name is said to be derived from how often they "go up in smoke" in the hands of trainees.
Flashgem
Kindlegems constructed from flash quartz, with a low cost, low flashpoint, and low permanence; for these reasons, they are often used for prototyping engrams or disposable applications.
Professional
Professional-grade kindlegems, the type used in artifice, are typically gemstones or minerals with a highly-ordered crystal structure, composed primarily of the coupling elements like carbon and oxygen, with small heavy metal impurities. Typical non-synthetic candidates include corundum, impure diamond, and hematite, which are then injected with atoms of bismuth, tungsten, or others.
Due to their structure and composition, the coupling factor is balanced out, which allows for a nice middle ground between less re-scriptings and malleability. The orderly structure of the crystal also allows a much higher variance in engrams, due to the map of woven soulfire having more routine connections to make use of per unit volume. Furthermore, the strategic placement of heavy metals allows for the preservation of just enough information to drastically prolong lifespan, if properly accounted for.
