Firekeeping
The study and practice of applying phlogistics to influence material reality, including engineering, medicine, and many other fields.
Usage
All firekeeping begins with the generation of soulfire, which is then manipulated in some manner to achieve some effect. It can be suddenly compressed to exert an explosive pressure, run over flamescript to affect engrams, or used for its fluid mechanics, in increasing order of complexity.
All life can control ambient Soulfire and even produce its own, but sourcing it from Gimyndine is much more potent and allows easier use when integrated with Kindlegem. This led to Gimyndine technology and its derivatives becoming the forefront of development for centuries, and many self-sourced firekeeping techniques became relegated to folk contexts or small communities, where the usage of Gimyndine was either impractical from extenuating circumstance, or rejected on principle.
Fields of Firekeeping
Artifice
The design of small-scale phlogistic devices, intended to be operated by a single firekeeper. Often involves complex but low-power engrams.
Soulkeeping
Soulkeeping involves techniques specific to self-aligned soulfire, including but not limited to bloodfont and blood infusion, divinities, refinement, soul assertion, and reckoning.
Arterial Arts
Techniques related to functions of the Arteries, intended to purge shades and support plant growth. Includes corporeal enhancement, all the techniques of soulkeeping, training in the creation of various soulfire aspects for effectiveness against phantasms, performing soul assertion on others, and promoting plant growth.
Coupled Engineering
The design of large-scale, industrial machinery designed to be operated my multiple firekeepers or autonomously using gimpowder.
Phlogistic Computing
Phlogistic Engineering
The design of soulware and other devices contained entirely within the Conscious Plane.
Ichorcraft
The design of ichorous items, referred to as ichorware, including prefabricated plane projections and much of high-level artifice.
Synthesis
Synthesis is the practice of utilizing complex visualization, infusion, and meldcraft engrams to construct complex materials.
Soulsmithing
Soulsmithing is the practice of forging metal utilizing the techniques of meldcraft, increasing the item's coupling limit and generally being safer, more precise, and requiring less physical effort than traditional forging methods.
Oversense
The design of engrams which construct additional senses, such as the prototypical oversense which allowed for arbitrarily precise truly three-dimensional spatial perception.
