Nightspawn
Similar to fairies, nightspawn are phantasms born from collective thought. The notable difference: nightspawn are formed by the coagulation of ill-oriented soulfire, leading them to take after creatures of nightmare and fear.
Origin
True to their name, nightspawn often form during the sleeping hours of the local populace, coming about as their fears and negative emotions crash into each other. However, nightspawn are not necessarily formed only by sapient activity. In fact, nightspawn are observed to grow stronger within deep forests and other places of dense life.
Incarnation
A notable trait of the nightspawn is their innate ability to incarnate; while fairies and other phantasms must either learn ichorcraft or spend valuable soulfire infusing matter to obtain bodies for themselves, the coagulated soulfire of nightspawn naturally lends itself to incarnation. Along with their hostile nature, this leads to nightspawn being one of the major threats of life outside city walls.
Limitations
Unlike other phantasm classifications, nightspawn are almost exclusively wisps, with the occasional and rather rare eidolon. This is due to the nature of their spawning, which is not conducive to the same self-sustaining process which allows for fairies to refine themselves.
